The weather cooperated; we had delicious food; participants took a wonderful 1.5 mile walk in beautiful Minnehaha Park; and participants enjoyed receiving a wide selection of door prizes including gift certificates donated by Dunn Brothers and tickets donated by the Guthrie Theater. A high point of the event was hearing live music by John Ward who played the guitar and sang to us with his beautiful voice. He sang songs by the Beatles, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan and other familiar classic rock songs. As a result of walk sponsors, we were able to raise $2,630. Thanks to all the sponsors who donated in honor of our participants.

Thanks to our Picnic and Walk committee chair Cheri Speeter Margoles and members Debra Bean, Tim Gothmann, Monsteur Herring, Bruce Legan, Dovima Shockley, and Rick Anderson. Thanks to our hot dog and potato salad chef, Mike Menner; to Debra Bean and Cheri Speeter Margoles for donating food and picnic supplies; to Debra Bean for helping our sweet tooth with her delicious desserts.

The picnic is our annual opportunity to bring together all the people involved with TCCVM including voice mail users, members of our 50+ and Advisory Groups, Board members, staff, and many other people who are involved with our work.

This year's picnic and walk was an especially important event because we announced our new name, Open Access Connections. We were excited to share this new name after a year long process of reflecting on who we are and choosing among dozens of potential names. This new name better reflects who we are in 2010 and the work that we do today. For more information on the name change, please see our new website: http://www.openaccessconnections.org/. All of the participants left the event with a t-shirt with our new name and logo on it.

We are now planning for our next picnic and walk in 2011 and anticipating another beautiful day where we join together around our mutual commitment to Twin Cities Community Voice Mail/Open Access Connections.
